FAQS

How do the girls travel from place to place?

We use a 15 passenger van for our road trip.  We take a ferry from Bellingham to Alaska which is one of the most exciting experiences as it takes us through the Inside Passage.  The Inside Passage is a coastal route for oceangoing vessels along the network of passages which weave through the islands on the Pacific Coast of North America.  "Shaped by the staggering force of massive glaciers millions of years ago, Alaska's Inside Passage boasts wildlife-filled fjords and lush island scenery- habitat for bald eagles, sea lions, porpoises and whales.  Its mountains are carpeted with majestic forests." -Travel Alaska

What are the accommodations?

The girls will split their time between camping in campgrounds and Air BnB rentals in the cities.  The girls will become confident in camp set up, cooking, and planning.  There will be sufficient time for laundry and school work (if working toward credits) during the trip.

What does my daughter need to bring?

A complete packing list will be sent upon acceptance into the program.  All outdoor gear will be supplied by us.

Can I go with my daughter?

Mothers or grandmothers are invited to attend as a chaperone.  All chaperones and leaders must pass background checks and be CPR and First Aid certified.  All chaperones must be willing to "camp where we camp, and physically participate in all activities".

Can my daughter earn credits for this experience?

In most cases, we can work with your daughter's school to issue credits for this experience.  This is on a case by case basis, and  would be approved by your daughter's school before she leaves for the trip.

What kind of communication will I receive from my daughter as she travels?

Students will have the opportunity to call home and report on their experiences.  We will be keeping an up-to-date blog with photos and articles written by the girls as we travel.  In order to keep the girls present in the work that we do each day, cellphones will be off and away until evening free time.  The leaders will always have a cellphone on them in case of emergencies.

If my daughter is only participating in half of the trip, how we she get to the airport?

We personally drive all of our girls to the airport when they have flights.  We can arrange a flight attendant escort through the airlines on request.
